Sir Alex Ferguson - DKUTDFANS 'Thank You Sir Alex' Tribute
The words that every United fan dreaded the thought of hearing... sadly occurred on Wednesday 8th May 2013.. 'Sir Alex Ferguson will be retiring as Manchester United manager at the end of the season'. Sir Alex has been in charge for 26 long years. One could not possibly fathom this ever being the case. Sir Alex has provided so many wonderful, glorious memories for our beloved club. For some people/fans, managers are out quicker than the duration of their press conferences!
However, we have been fortunate to witness amazing things such as the treble in 1999, being the first British club to win the club world cup, 'knocking Liverpool off their perch' and many more. We must remember Sir Alex as a true legend and the fact he has embodied a never die spirit in our club. Thankfully, he will remain on the club`s board and will be working for us as an ambassador.
We welcome David Moyes on board and let`s hope he can follow in Sir Alex`s footsteps. People have been saying that Moyes (or Moyez as MM as labelled him) is 'cut from the same cloth' as Sir Alex. Both are from Glasgow, both demand hard work and have an intensity about them, a will to win. We will support Moyes to the best of our ability and hopefully he will be successful. We are probably going to need to be patient as we go through a transition period. However, we are sitting on top at the moment - who got us there? Sir Alex. Let`s hope Moyes takes us upwards and onwards. Inshallah.
Below is extracted comments from the DKUTDFANS WhatsApp group and how the news broke on the 8th May..
KC has not said anything since breaking the news..
08/05/2013 07:24:28: Kurban Mob: Did you hear about SAF rumours!!!!! May be retiring before the end of this week.
08/05/2013 08:07:18: RaY: No?
08/05/2013 08:10:24: RaY: Oh my god
08/05/2013 08:10:34: RaY: What have I woken up 2??
08/05/2013 08:10:41: RaY: This is scary...
08/05/2013 08:11:00: RaY: SIR ALEX FERGUSON
Manchester United are expected to make a statement to the New York Stock Exchange before it opens at 1430 BST.
The Premier League champions are listed on the NYSE and its rules require a company to release statements about significant information that relates to how it is run.
08/05/2013 08:20:16: RaY: I'm really worried
08/05/2013 09:21:23: RaY: omg
08/05/2013 09:22:00: RaY: SAF retires
08/05/2013 09:22:09: RaY: Official on manutd.com
08/05/2013 09:22:22: RaY: He will be on our board now
08/05/2013 09:27:21: Kiyanoush: My god
08/05/2013 09:28:02: Din K Mob: Predictions on successor?
08/05/2013 09:28:39: Kiyanoush: Options are Mourinho, moyes, blanc (who says he wants to coach a team now), Klopp
08/05/2013 09:30:20: Kiyanoush: This changes everything
08/05/2013 09:35:25: RaY: Moyes is a strong bet. I think SAF will plump for Mourinho (would be a steal from Chelsea's intentions)
08/05/2013 09:36:15: RaY: KC made a point that Mourinho won't uphold our dignity though. He can't be respectful with our club which has a worldwide reputation.
08/05/2013 09:36:42: RaY: I don't want Moyes simply because our club is not a toy & he has not proven to be successful
08/05/2013 09:36:56: RaY: It definitely won't be Rafa!
08/05/2013 10:10:17: RaY: In light of today's news...
I will be wearing this t-shirt to work today (read the bottom)
08/05/2013 10:09:38: Kiyanoush: Beautiful
08/05/2013 10:11:26: RaY: If we reveal a new home kit I will be getting it with Sir Alex #1 on the back
08/05/2013 10:12:06: RaY: Or a tribute t shirt either from manutd.com or the merchandise stalls if they have 1 at wembley when we play in the community shield
08/05/2013 10:42:25: Kiyanoush: SKY SOURCES: DAVID MOYES in POLE POSITION
08/05/2013 10:51:09: RaY: Wow!
08/05/2013 10:51:45: RaY: AW just called to have a chat and said Moyes is logical but he would want Klopp (I Said that's KM's choice)
08/05/2013 10:51:41: Kiyanoush: Would prefer someone with international stature and who's been proven to spend big money and win against the greats.. Not sure moyes has any of those qualities
08/05/2013 10:52:34: Kiyanoush: Jose's too controversial and doesn't bring in enough youth so I can understand him getting ignore (even tho I love him). Pep's at Bayern. klopp's a big risk
08/05/2013 10:52:45: Kiyanoush: I suppose moyes is the safest option, sadly
08/05/2013 10:52:57: Kiyanoush: What do u think ?
08/05/2013 10:55:39: RaY: I'm with u man completely. Just no profile. Our Singapore fans will be scratching their heads.. Moyes will have a small fishing rod & a big pond..
08/05/2013 10:55:59: RaY: Honestly devastated!
08/05/2013 10:55:24: Kiyanoush: So true.. What do the greater members of the dkutdfans group thing?
08/05/2013 10:56:55: RaY: MM u alright? Haven't heard from you all morning!
08/05/2013 10:57:48: RaY:
08/05/2013 10:58:05: RaY: Atleast he won't cost (contract) & compensation wise
08/05/2013 10:57:08: Kiyanoush: Everton not had any approach from mufc
08/05/2013 10:58:41: RaY: He looks like he can motivate but how he will handle things like the club etc I'm not sure
08/05/2013 10:58:56: RaY: It is a risk tho surely @KM?
08/05/2013 10:58:30: Kiyanoush: He just won't beat Bayern Munich or Real Madrid - he's had no experience with it all.. That's a bigger risk than Mourinho
08/05/2013 10:58:55: Kiyanoush: Sky sources: "nt looking for a quick fix or a hired gun"
08/05/2013 10:58:58: Kiyanoush: Yeah it's definitely moyes
08/05/2013 10:59:41: Mohamed M Mob: Don't panic !!!
Was a bit tied up ,but indeed very saddened to hear the news n was on bbc news on the small hours of the morning!!!!
That Fergie to retire !!!
Why out of the blue. Has come as a thunderbolt

Very likely.Mourinho
08/05/2013 11:02:54: Mohamed M Mob: I certainly hope it is not Moyes he will not stand up in Europe!!!

08/05/2013 11:09:18: Mohamed M Mob: RR who do you want as the manager?
08/05/2013 11:13:53: Kiyanoush: Fergie broke down in tears in an 8 minute meeting with the first team squad this morning. "Pensive and somber atmosphere"
08/05/2013 11:16:44: RaY: Wow
08/05/2013 11:16:55: RaY: I would be lying if I said not Mourinho
08/05/2013 11:15:53: Kiyanoush: Standing ovation. Players emotional and shocked and quiet. Ferguson became particularly emotional as he revealed some people present - technical staff - may lose their jobs
08/05/2013 11:17:58: RaY: Announcement within next 48 hours?
08/05/2013 11:18:07: RaY:
08/05/2013 11:18:42: RaY: I agree with MM - Moyes will find the going tough in Europe
08/05/2013 11:19:23: RaY: Mourinho has respected us (unlike Benitez - his words towards us & Chelsea when LFC manager) & his CV is perfect
08/05/2013 11:23:09: Mohamed M Mob: Our dominance in English football will go as there will not be anybody that
Will come anywhere near his phonemenol record. Will never be equalled in generations to come!!!!
This is really sad news,
But wish success to whoever takes on this mammoth task!!!
08/05/2013 11:24:55: RaY: Agree MM
08/05/2013 11:25:16: RaY: Mine & KM's grand kids will be taught about SAF
08/05/2013 11:25:49: RaY: We've never known anyone other than SAF in charge of our beloved club
08/05/2013 11:27:46: RaY: Come what may we stay strong, we stay UNITED
08/05/2013 11:29:52: RaY: We'll never die, will never die, we'll never die, will never die, we'll keep the red flag flying high, coz Man United will never die.
08/05/2013 11:47:16: Mohamed M Mob: I sincerely hope it is not the end of a TITLE WINNING ERA I am very concerned about that Yes there has always been competition but hope the new manager stands up to it.
08/05/2013 11:59:41: RaY: Agree
08/05/2013 12:25:19: Kiyanoush: Confirmed not mourinho

08/05/2013 21:49:01: RaY: Scottish heritage gr8 choice long term strategy wise!
08/05/2013 21:52:44: Mohamed M Mob: This report seems correct as Moyes having a meeting with his chairman as I write and read this on what's app.
So it is almost certain that it is going to be Moyes or shall we call homMOEZ after all we have Shivji andGiga on the team already.
08/05/2013 21:54:42: RaY: Haha @ Moez - I like it!
08/05/2013 21:55:01: RaY: I think we have to get on with it. All signs pointing towards Moyes
08/05/2013 22:01:23: Mohamed M Mob: Not happy. With the appt if he gets the job Will be very happy if I am proved wrong and he performs and wins us trophies but have my doubts big time about his ability which may bring unstability after such a long stable era.

09/05/2013 14:56:53: RaY: David Moyes has told Everton he wants to become Sir Alex Ferguson's successor as Manchester United manager.
The Goodison Park club confirmed that Moyes will depart when his contract expires this summer.
Minutes earlier, Manchester United appeared to signal that Moyes' appointment was imminent.
The Old Trafford club put an entry on their Facebook page that said: "Send your personal welcome to our new manager David Moyes".
The message posted on Man Utd's Facebook page on Thursday afternoon
United had denied a deal was done and said they did not know how the page was updated.
The page was later deleted.
Ferguson, 71, revealed his decision to step down on Wednesday after nearly 27 years in charge at Old Trafford.
Everton said in a statement: "Everton can confirm that David Moyes will leave the club at the end of the season.
"The manager met chairman Bill Kenwright early yesterday evening and confirmed his desire to join Manchester United.
"The chairman, on behalf of the club, would like to place on record his thanks to David for the massive contribution he has made to Everton since his arrival in March 2002. He has been an outstanding manager.
"During his tenure at Goodison Park, David has taken charge of the team on over 500 occasions including four European campaigns.
"Everton officials will start the search for a replacement manager immediately."
09/05/2013 15:30:54: Din K Mob: Phil Neville comes with him ?
09/05/2013 15:40:27: RaY: I wouldn't mind that - that did cross my mind
09/05/2013 15:41:31: RaY: AW asked if I can get a ticket for the game on sun. I read a line that tickets could be going for a grand!
